Previous Auctions Have Raises Thousands of Dollars
DENVER — This week, Colorado launched an auction for the rights to 20 official state license plate configurations with cannabis-themed phrases including MJ, LIT, CHRONIC, and 420LIFE. Auction proceeds will support the Colorado Disability Funding Committee, which provides grants to support disability application assistance and programs that provide Coloradans with disabilities the resources they need to thrive. The 2021 auction raised over $45,000 and the 2022 auction raised over $41,000.
“This auction continues to be a meaningful way to celebrate Colorado’s innovative cannabis industry while providing funding to the Colorado Disability Funding Committee,” said Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera. “This funding provides continued transformative support to the non-profit organizations helping make sure all Coloradans with disabilities can thrive.”
Individuals participating in the auction can bid on the right to own the use of the configuration of letters and numbers on their Colorado license plate or have the ability to purchase a novelty plate and retain the exclusive rights to use the configuration on their Colorado license plate at a later date. The buyer also has the rights to resell the configuration through the Colorado Disability Funding Committee in the future. Individuals are responsible for paying all standard registration fees, a personalized plate production fee, and any additional fees for a designer background, including the 4 historic backgrounds that are now available and also benefit the Colorado Disability Funding Committee, if they do not want the standard white and green license plate.
The 2022 auction featured the number “420”, which sold for nearly $10,000 and proceeds went to the Colorado Disability Funding Committee. Bidding is online and remains open until 4:20 p.m. Mountain Time on April 27, 2022. Graphics of the license plate configurations in this auction can be found in this folder.
Upcoming auctions will feature Star Wars in celebration of May 4th, and a celebration of the grand re-opening of Casa Bonita featuring a variety of phrases related to the restaurant’s new owners.
The state reminds the public it is never a good idea to mix driving and cannabis. Cannabis impairs critical abilities needed to drive safely, which can result in a crash. A DUI can cost more than $13,500 and include jail time, loss of license and more.
