Delivering real results for Coloradans, Lawmakers & Administration worked to make housing more affordable, save people money on healthcare, achieve 100% renewable energy in Colorado by 2040, and make communities safer.
DENVER- Today, Legislative Leadership, Gov. Polis and Lt. Governor Primavera discussed the historic first session of Seventy-fourth General Assembly and highlighted important action taken by lawmakers to deliver real results for Coloradans.
“Coloradans demanded bold action on the issues that matter most to them, and this session we delivered,” said Senate President Steve Fenberg, D-Boulder. “From passing landmark gun violence prevention laws and working to lower your energy bills, to improving our gold standard elections and taking action to lower property tax bills for families and businesses, we fought tirelessly this session to make a real difference in our communities and for the people who make this state great.”
“From improving public education with a record investment in our schools, teachers and students, to reducing the cost of health care and prescription drugs, this session delivered real results on the issues that matter most to Coloradans,” said Speaker Julie McCluskie, D-Dillon. “The legislation we passed will protect access to abortion, support our workforce and save people money on housing. I’m proud of our work to boost rural economies, protect our water future, and pass bipartisan legislation that will uplift people all across our state and help everyone reach their Colorado dream.”
“Democrats delivered real results for Coloradans this session that meet the needs of our growing state and position us well for the future,” Senate Majority Leader Dominick Moreno, D-Commerce City, said. “We remained laser-focused on the issues that matter most to Colorado families: making Colorado a more affordable place to live, building safer, healthier communities, and setting students, teachers, and our workforce up for success. I’m proud of the progress we made this year, and I look forward to building a better Colorado for generations to come.”
“This session, we worked to address the most pressing needs in Colorado and did what we told voters we’d do when they elected the largest Democratic majority since the 1930s,” said House Majority Leader Monica Duran, D-Wheat Ridge. “Democrats passed a landmark package of commonsense gun violence prevention laws, increased funding for crime victim services, and worked across the aisle to protect our freedoms, support working families, and improve public safety. We rejected the GOP’s extreme abortion bans, bills that would upend our gold standard election system, and anti-science climate denialism that threatens our future and our Colorado way of life.”
This year in his State of the State address, Governor Polis described his vision for Colorado, challenging us to envision what we want Colorado to look like at the end of his term and when the state turns 150 in 2026.
“We are committed to working with Republicans and Democrats to do what’s right for Colorado and delivering real results,” said Governor Polis. "Coloradans put their trust in their elected members of the legislature to tackle the most pressing issues like ensuring there is a home for every budget, deployment of more renewable energy, cutting property taxes, protecting our environment, saving money on health care, and making Colorado safer. I am hopeful that in the years ahead we will continue to build upon our shared goals.”
The legislature in partnership with the administration has worked to invest in education and workforce development opportunities. This legislative session, bipartisan action to advance students' math scores and provide additional resources to uplift students' educational experience was sent to the Governor’s desk. Additionally, the legislature worked to pass important workforce development opportunities that give Coloradans access to education and resources to advance their careers.
This session, the legislature, in partnership with the Governor, took historic action to save people money on utility bills by increasing access for Coloradas to clean energy technology, moving us closer to the Governor’s goal of 100% renewable energy by 2040. Clean energy tax credits were expanded to offer more savings on upgrades like E-bikes, electric vehicles, and high-efficiency electric heating with geothermal and heat pump technologies. The administration, in partnership with the legislature, is supporting local governments to speed up and reduce the cost of installing rooftop solar, and expand access to electric vehicle charging. And the legislature further strengthened Colorado’s competitiveness for federal funds with investments in innovative clean technology like green hydrogen and pathways to scaling carbon management. These efforts will ensure Colorado remains a leader in clean energy technology development and help the state reduce pollution and preserve our natural environment.
This session legislative leaders joined Gov. Polis and Lt. Governor Primavera, who heads the Office of Saving People Money on Health Care, to launch a package of bills to help provide Coloradans with healthcare savings. The plan passed by the legislature will help lower the cost of prescription drugs and implement new protections for consumers against rising insurance premiums and hospital prices. Further, the package will increase transparency requirements for prices and more consumer protections from rising costs in the healthcare system.
Additionally, the legislature in partnership with the Governor worked to ensure that Colorado becomes one of the top ten safest states in the next five years and make Colorado safer.
Members of the legislature and the Governor know Coloradans are feeling the stress of rising property taxes which is why they acted to help save people and renters money on property taxes.
