Monday, September 7, 2020

DENVER - Governor Jared Polis released the following statement celebrating Labor Day and Colorado’s workers.

“Today we safely celebrate the hardworking people who helped build our country. We know that when workers are treated with dignity, respect, and have the right to organize for better compensation and benefits, they are more productive, and can provide their families with a brighter future,” said Governor Jared Polis. “From our frontline health care workers, and our educators to the people who stock shelves and keep us fed, and our first responders, we are grateful to all of the Colorado workers who have bravely responded to this pandemic. We know it will take all of us working together and the resilient spirit of Coloradans to bounce back stronger than ever and continue building a Colorado for all where everyone can earn a good life.”

Governor Polis has worked to foster an economy that works for all, lower the cost of health care for hardworking Coloradans, put Colorado on the path to 100% renewable energy by 2040, and climate action which will help create more good-paying green jobs. Gov. Polis has signed legislation to ensure paid sick leave for workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, expand unemployment insurance, and a bill to enshrine state workers’ ability to collectively bargain and transform the state into a competitive, twenty-first Century employer of choice, and included in his previous budget requests paid family and medical leave for state employees.
