DENVER - Colorado Governor Jared Polis applauded the Senate Banking Committee for passing the SAFER Banking Act. Governor Polis has consistently called on Congress to pass this law to help provide stability in the cannabis industry.
“I am thrilled the Senate has finally taken up this important piece of legislation that will provide more certainty to our small businesses and marijuana industry, this is an important step and I thank the Senators who voted in favor of this bipartisan bill,” said Governor Polis. “This bill supports cannabis-related businesses, supports minority, women, and veteran-owned small businesses, will help create jobs, and strengthen public safety in our communities and across the country. We look forward to seeing a full vote in the Senate and passage in the House again soon.”
Governor Polis, in partnership with other Governors from across the country, have twice called on Congress to pass the bill into law.
Last year, Governor Polis, Lt. Governor Primavera, Attorney General Weiser, and State Treasurer Young, Stan Hilkey Executive Director, Colorado Department of Public Safety sent a letter to Congressional Leadership urging them to pass the SAFE Banking Act. The U.S. House has approved the legislation seven times but the Senate has not ever voted on the bill.
