TRINIDAD - Governor Jared Polis helped celebrate the opening of the Sister Blandina Wellness Gardens this afternoon in Trinidad. Members of the Polis administration including CDOT executive director Shoshana Lew, Trinidad Mayor Phil Rico, the Southern Colorado Catholic Diocese, and additional local officials were in attendance.
“In the shadow of Fishers Peak and in the center of downtown Trinidad, the Sister Blandina Wellness Gardens will provide locals and visitors alike with an opportunity to improve wellness, reflect, and participate in community events,” said Governor Polis. “I commend the Mt. Carmel Wellness and Community Center, which has been working to keep Sister Blandina’s mission alive and boost Las Animas County’s health and wellness, for their commitment to community.”
The Gardens’ namesake is Sister Blandina Segale who resided in Trinidad 150 years ago and was known for her compassion and commitment to uplifting individuals facing challenges. The Gardens’ mission is to promote both spiritual reflection and community togetherness. More information on the Gardens.
