DENVER - Today, Governor Jared Polis appointed Robert C. James to the 13th Judicial District Court. This vacancy is created by the retirement of the Honorable Kevin L. Hoyer, and the appointment is effective October 1, 2021. 

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis provided an update on the COVID-19 pandemic and the state’s decision to require vaccines for employees working in its 24/7 facilities and interacting with vulnerable populations. He was joined by Dr. Rachel Herlihy, State Epidemiologist, who provided a modeling update, as well as Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera, Colorado Department of Human Services Executive Director Michelle Barnes and Colorado Department of Corrections Executive Director Dean Williams.

DENVER -  In a letter to President Biden today, Governor Polis wrote that Colorado stands ready to provide safety and opportunity to Afghan refugees and Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders. Earlier this year, Governor Polis sent President Biden a letter encouraging the Biden Administration to rescue Afghans who cooperated with American forces and therefore face increased threats and fear for their future under the Taliban.

DENVER - Governor Polis and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Executive Director Jill Ryan sent a letter to school superintendents and charter school leaders making clear the state is ready to support our schools, students, parents, and teachers in order to meet the goals of safety and uninterrupted in-person learning for students.  

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis signed an Executive Order rescinding proclamations by Territorial Governor John Evans in 1864 that shamefully targeted and endangered the lives of the American Indians. Governor Polis was joined by Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera and members of the Southern Ute, Ute Mountain Ute, Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribe, and the Northern Arapaho Tribe, as well as members of Colorado's American Indian and Alaska Native communities. 

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis urged the State Board of Health to quickly engage in a rulemaking to require the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine for personnel staffing vulnerable populations and places where people receive essential medical care.

DENVER - Colorado Governor Jared Polis and Western Governors sent a bipartisan letter to the Biden administration urging the President to declare a FEMA drought disaster in order for western states to receive additional federal resources. 

DENVER – –Last year, historic wildfires were an unfortunate reminder to Coloradans that many forested areas here remain unhealthy and fire-prone. Currently, several wildfires are actively burning in Colorado, creating public health, safety, economic and other issues, while the impacts of the 2020 wildfires, including deadly and disruptive mudslides, are creating challenges.
