DENVER — Today, Governor Jared Polis, State Treasurer Dave Young, Rep. Iman Jodeh, Rep. Susan Lontine, local officials, and community service providers visited sites focused on reducing homelessness by increasing workforce opportunities and supportive services including mental and behavioral health care, to ensure more people quickly exit homelessness and thrive.

DENVER — Today, Governor Polis appointed Marques A. Ivey to the Adams County Court in the 17th Judicial District. This vacancy was occasioned by the retirement of the Honorable Brian N. Bowen, and is effective on April 29, 2022.

DENVER — Today, Governor Jared Polis and the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment announced that Colorado’s unemployment rate has dropped to 3.7% in March. Strong growth in the labor force participation rate and employment-population ratio for three straight months puts Colorado as the fifth fastest recovery in participation rate in the nation through February. In February, Colorado had the third highest participation rate among states.

BOULDER - Today, Governor Polis took innovative action to attract new and skilled talent to Colorado’s thriving economy and continue to make the state an employer of choice. The Governor signed an Executive Order directing state agencies to consider job applicants’ skills and experiences as substitutions for educational degrees and certifications when making hiring decisions, a practice known as skills-based hiring. The Department of Personnel & Administration (DPA) is responsible for developing guidance and strategies to assist state agencies to implement skills-based hiring practices, and working with agencies to update job postings to reflect the skills-based approach.

DENVER — Today, Governor Polis released a statement following the passage of HB22-1295, the Department of Early Childhood and Universal Preschool legislation, sponsored by Senator Janet Buckner, President Steve Fenberg, Representative Emily Sirota, and Speaker Alec Garnett through the Senate on second reading. Governor Polis has championed Universal Preschool since day one.

DENVER — Today, Governor Jared Polis was joined by Senator Jeff Bridges, Representative David Ortiz, and community leaders to announce efforts to tackle Colorado’s housing costs, leveraging a once-in-a-generation opportunity provided by $400 million for housing relief in American Recovery Plan Act funds. Developed from recommendations made by the Affordable Housing Transformational Task Force, proposed legislation takes an all-hands-on-deck approach, including grant, revolving loans, and incentive programs to engage community partners representing a broad range of needs — from innovative housing businesses to local governments and community developers. These programs are designed to better provide affordable housing solutions that hardworking Coloradans deserve.

DENVER — Governor Jared Polis and Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera yesterday joined the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, and Ute Indian Tribe Tribal Councils to celebrate Ute Day at the Capitol. Governor Jared Polis signed legislation into law  to support communication between the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and Southern Ute Indian Tribe and the State of Colorado, and to establish an annual Tribal address before the General Assembly.
